Research Laboratory Technician in Nanotechnology

Position Overview:
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide essential scientific assistance to our research initiatives focused on the application of nanoparticles, nanosystems, and nanomotors in the fields of bioengineering, biotechnology, and biomedical sciences.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct synthesis of micro- and nanoparticles (both inorganic and organic) and assist team members with their synthesis projects.
• Contribute to projects involving 3D printing technologies.
• Oversee the maintenance of analytical and characterization instruments, taking responsibility for specific equipment based on the technician's expertise.
• Aid in sample preparation and characterization using microscopy techniques, including SEM and TEM.
• Organize laboratory space, manage reagent and equipment orders in collaboration with fellow technicians and the Group Leader.
• Facilitate the onboarding of new lab members and familiarize them with lab protocols.
• Manage the scheduling of group equipment reservations.
• Provide training for new users on equipment and laboratory procedures.
• Oversee the onboarding and offboarding processes for group members.
• Manage the laboratory's physical spaces and computer systems.
• Serve as the liaison between researchers and external vendors, maintenance teams, security, administrative staff, and other IBEC departments, including IT, Core Facilities, Health & Safety, Finance, and Communications.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety regulations.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential Qualifications:
• A degree in chemistry, nanoscience, nanotechnology, nanomaterials, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in the synthesis of inorganic or organic nanoparticles (e.g., polymeric, silica-based, metallic) and familiarity with characterization techniques (e.g., DLS, Z-potential, spectroscopy methods).
• Skills and competencies: Strong communication, teamwork, commitment, proactivity, integrity, critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills in diverse and multicultural environments.
• Proficient in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience as a Laboratory Technician supporting teams in international research settings.
• Familiarity with electron microscopy techniques (such as SEM and TEM).
