Job Summary
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Technician to join the Smart Nano-Bio-Devices Research Group. As a key member of the team, you will provide scientific support to the research activities of the group, focusing on the use of nanoparticles, nanosystems, and nanomotors in bioengineering, biotechnological, and biomedical applications.
Main Responsibilities
- Assist in the synthesis of micro- and nanoparticles (inorganic and organic) and provide support to group members on related projects.
- Maintain the analytical and characterization tools, taking responsibility for equipment based on your skills and expertise.
- Support the preparation and characterization of samples using microscopy techniques such as SEM and TEM.
- Organize the lab, manage reagents and equipment, and coordinate with other technicians and the Group Leader.
- Introduce new lab members to facilities and lab rules, manage equipment reservation calendars, and train users on equipment and lab procedures.
- Be responsible for the on-boarding and check-out of group members, manage lab spaces and computers, and serve as a contact person between researchers and various departments.
- Ensure lab safety and maintain a high level of organization and communication within the team.
Requirements
- Essential qualifications: Degree in chemistry, nanoscience and nanotechnology, nanomaterials, chemistry biomedical engineering, or similar.
- Knowledge of nanoparticle synthesis (inorganic or organic) and characterization techniques (e.g., DLS, Z-potential, spectroscopy techniques).
- Competencies and skills: Communication, Teamwork and collaboration, Commitment, Proactivity, Integrity, Critical and Analytical thinking, Problem solving skills, and Organizational skills in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
- High level of English proficiency.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience as a Lab Technician supporting group members in international labs.
- Experience in electronic microscopy (e.g., SEM, TEM).
