**How can you make a difference?**

Within the Division of Global Communication and Advocacy (DGCA), the Youth Engagement Team works to
strengthen the organization's capacity to engage young people as advocates and campaigners for children's rights
through our flagship campaigns and initiatives and ensure that the perspectives and voices of young people are
an integral part of our communications and advocacy.

U-Report is one of UNICEF's flagship initiatives to engage and empower young people. It is designed to
strengthen community-led development, citizen engagement and access to and use of real-time monitoring and
participation platforms. U-Report allows youth to speak out via SMS and other channels - through polls and
unsolicited messages - on what is happening in their communities. It provides a forum to amplify their voices
through local and national media and acts as a citizen-sourced, real-time data point for key stakeholders, service
providers and decision-makers about the issues being faced in communities. The platform also feeds back
valuable information to the U-Report participants, so they are empowered to work for change and improvements
in their localities themselves.

This position resides within Youth Engagement, as part of the DGCA, and reports to the Digital Communication
Specialist.

**Purpose for the job**:
The incumbent of this role will assist in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating an advocacy and communication strategy to get young people's issues into the public domain through the use of digital and social media platforms; strengthen political will in support of UNICEF's mission and objectives in the country, and enhance the organization's and U-Report's credibility and brand.

**DESCRIPTION OF THE ASSIGNMENT**

**1. Communication content development**
- Implement the tasks in the Youth Engagement Team's communication work plan and strategy as assigned.
- Design and implement effective communication plans that will deliver the aims of key youth engagement strategies.
- Elaborate content and coverage of relevant global, regional and country U-Report and youth engagement related activities and results that highlight the programme's impact at the country, regional and global levels, and develop communication materials and activities to amplify them among internal and external audiences.
- Produce communication materials (e.g. briefing notes, content packages, images, video, infographics, audio etc.) that meet global standards as set out in the U-Report Branding and Communication Toolkit, to support the deployment of U-Report Global Coordinated Actions (polls, chatbots and other actions) and other youth engagement initiatives.
- Produce editorial content (e.g. articles, press releases, human interest stories and other advocacy/information materials) for both web-based and traditional media, as appropriate.
- Follow up on the production of advocacy and communication materials (e.g., films, videos, audio-visuals, etc.), and oversee the qualitative aspects of production (e.g., quality control, translations, reviews of layout and graphic design etc.) to meet standards as set out in the U-Report Branding and Communication Toolkit.
- Establish and maintain an up-to-date library (i.e. SharePoint and WeShare) for communication materials, including social media assets, publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.
- Recommend appropriate information and communication materials for use in media and other advocacy and communication activities; recommend the appropriateness, quality and dissemination of printed and audio-visual materials.
- Assist in providing feedback to U-Report-related content created by Programme Group, Regional and Country Offices, partners and others.
- Perform other content development duties, as well as other communication officer duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

**2. Social media, digital marketing campaigns and web**
- Manage Social Media channels, website and internal communication platforms, perform content moderation and community management, ensuring effective engagement with young people, UNICEF staff and other internal and external audiences.
- Draft monthly report on U-Report's social media, including an overview of U-Report country and regional programs highlighting lessons learned and recommendations.
- Support the conceptualization, budgeting, planning, coordination, and execution of digital and marketing communications campaigns contributing to efforts to scale up the registration of U-Report
