Working within a team, you will be trained so that you can weigh samples, add flux reagents, fuse the mixture in a high-temperature furnace, and collect precious metals (gold) through cupellation and prilling on a daily basis.Before sending the sample prills to the laboratory for testing, you'll need to thoroughly inspect the samples, fusion pots, lead buttons and prills to ensure the correctness and record any anomalies.To be suitable for this role, you must be able to perform the procedure promptly, organized and accurately. In addition, as this will employ a combination of intense heat (900 - 1100 C) produced by a furnace, dry chemicals and refractory materials regularly, you must proactively look out for safety issues and practice fire assay safety procedures.The hourly rate of $33.53 per hour is a starting rate. In addition, you will receive shift allowances of 15% for the afternoon shift and 20% for the night shift.As you build your experience in this role, you can secure a full-time position and earn higher pay rates. Additionally, penalty rates are paid for any weekend or other overtime (optional) and are added to the hourly rate advertised.This Casual position will involve working a rotating 8-hour shift, 5 days per week, with 1 week each of Days, Nights, and Afternoons.Responsibilities include: Perform fire assay techniques such as fluxing, fusing and cupellationCleaning Maintain and record equipment faultsMaintain productivity and turnaround timeQuality Control and compliance to proceduresCommunicating and working with team membersThe essentials Ability to follow set procedures and attention to detailClear communication skills, both written and oralAbility to work under pressure and to strict deadlinesThe ability to create and encourage teamworkThe ability to work in a hot, manual-intensive work environmentTo be flexible and reliable to meet the high demands of the sectionAt ALS, we are also looking to develop the leaders of tomorrow and offer opportunities for staff to build careers in leadership
