- ALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center, this last in partnership with other institutions. Currently constructing multiple more beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics, it sums up a wide range of infrastructures geared toward finding solutions to societal challenges.
Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament de Recerca i Universitats).
The synchrotron light produced by 3 GeV electrons is used by thousands of researchers to analyse and understand the properties and functionality of matter, spanning a wide variety of fields, such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage.

- CELLS is looking for a scientist to be incorporated in the Beam Dynamics Group of ALBA, in the Accelerator Division.
- Take part in the design of a new multi-bend achromat ultra-low emittance storage ring, fitting the existing ALBA storage ring layout.
- Extensive physical studies and numerical optimizations to find the best lattice solutions.
- Particle tracking and optimization studies, both for linear lattice design and for dynamic aperture and lifetime optimisations.
- Use of accelerator codes such as AT, MADX and Elegant.
- Furthermore, participating in beam dynamics studies for analysis and upgrades of the present ALBA lattice: operation modes for new beamlines, development of alternative lattices for new modes of operation, setting up of measurements and data analysis for linear and nonlinear beam dynamics studies, etc.
- Involvement in the design of the injection scheme for the future ALBA-II accelerator
- Operation of the ALBA accelerators, including shifts and oncall, accordantly to the established schedule
- RequirementsApplications that do not present the aforementioned or required documentation during the selection procedure will not be accepted.
- PhD Degree in physics, engineering or mathematics.
- English language to a level equivalent to B

- The selection will be carried out through the competitionopposition system.
As a first phase, an analysis of the curriculum will be carried out (assessment of previous experience and / or scientific history, degree, training and other professional information relevant to the position).
- The following specific formation and experience related to the tasks of the position will be evaluated, up to 14 points, with the following aspects:
- Beam measurements, commissioning or operation aspects of synchrotrons or similar facilities (3 points).
o Lattice design of storage rings and transfer lines (3 points).
o Simulation, optimization or design of injection schemes (2 points)
o Simulation codes used in the accelerator beam dynamics community, such as MADX, AT, Elegant(2 points).
o Software languages:
Python, C, Matlab, C++ (1 point ).
o Development of accelerator tracking codes (1 point).
- Language skills up to 2 points:
The interview will include at least:
- Presentation of academia, professional experience and skills.
- Autoassessment of soft skills.
