DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Shall be proficient in advanced life support and the treatment protocol associated with Decompression Sickness (DCS).

  • Ensure ambulance response team shall arrive on scene within 5 minutes of receipt of an emergency call and report to the incident commander.
  • The ambulance response team shall transfer patients to Clinica Fatima, Valme Hospital, Virgen Del Roccio Trauma Center or the Spanish Air Force Clinic. These medical centers shall be referred to as "local hospitals" hereafter.
  • Provide basic Life Support care and treatment to patients.
  • Ensure availability of supplies, services and equipment necessary to maintain or improve the patient's medical status.
  • Coordinate infield care and patient transport with local hospitals in accordance with Royal Decree 836/2012 protocol.
  • Ensure the ambulance crewmember with the highest qualifications remains with the patient until the patient is transferred to a local hospital worker with the same or higher qualifications.
  • Provide annual report to COR, 496 ABS/SG and 86 MDG/SGH detailing number of responses, transports, and summaries of care.
  • Complete and maintain USAFE Form 18, Pre-Hospital Care Report (RR), for each ambulance response medical emergency and inflight emergency monthly as required.
  • Ensure the completed USAFE Form 18 is included in the patient's medical record.
  • Send copies of the USAFE Form 18 to 86 MDG (SGH, SGN and Senior 4N) for validation that quality of care standards have been met.
  • Ensure all documentation contains complete patient identification.
  • Provide copies of the Pre-Hospital Care Report to the Medical Aid Station within one business day of ambulance response.
  • Provide the results of all quarterly compliance regulatory inspections to the Contractor Officer Representative (COR).
  • Forward any inspection discrepancies to the 496 ABS/SG and 86 MDG/SGH for review.
  • Provide patient transport services for Government beneficiaries and the general population
  • Ensure the emergency services ambulance and materials are in a clean, sanitary, and stocked condition IAW applicable regulations
  • Receive radio or phone requests for ambulance service and determine response actions.
  • Develop procedures, policies, directives, and plans to operate the emergency services section.
  • Perform ambulance services IAW the professional standards of the most current Royal Decree 836/201
  • Provide emergency patient response and transport services 24 hours a day, 7 days per week to include all American and Host Nation holidays.
  • Provide an Ambulance Services supervisor who shall work normal duty hours, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. The AN supervisor may delegate the supervisor's responsibilities to a shift lead or a shift nurse during the offduty hours. However, a supervisor shall be readily available and respond to the clinic for major emergency events that occur during the offduty hours.
  • Provide emergency ambulance service to the base community. Provide supervision of 12 employees assigned to the ambulance. Perform direct nursing care in the prehospital setting as well as the urgent care setting.
  • Provide liaison between the local Spanish medical system and U.S. Air Force personnel. Perform personnel administration and management functions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Preferred:

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English written and spoken to facilitate the delivery of the patient response forms to the USG
  • Familiar with SOS International/TRICARE programs and procedures

Qualifications:

  • Shall possess a U.S. Nurse License.
  • Shall be a current National Registered Emergency Medical Technician and American Heart Association Advance Life Support (ALS) card holder.
