Emergency Control Center Operator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitors the communications center.
  • Receives alarms, alerts, and dispatches fire fighting and/or medical crew.
  • Records data.
  • Receives and relays pertinent communication.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief, or Assistant Chief of Operations.
  • Maintains maps, checklists, and charts.
  • Performs a variety of support activities.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and records.
  • The employee is required to work on alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty. (This includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.)
  • May be required to converse with obscene, abusive, and threatening callers in an effort to establish the identity of the caller.
  • The employee is required to perform critical services, regardless of weather conditions or base closure, and report to duty station at the regularly scheduled work time.
  • Responsible for other associated duties as assigned.
  • Employees are required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
  • Will be expected to update records in ARIS.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

Preferred:

  • Excellent computer, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required. Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of location and availability of emergency apparatus, the kind of apparatus and equipment needed for the emergency at hand. Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, using a calm and stable demeanor while dealing with emergency situations. Ability to work independently without immediate supervision.
  • Must be able to complete the following certifications but not limited to:
  • DOD Manual Certification DoD/Proboard or IFSAC certifications in HazMat Awareness
  • Telecommunicator I and II IAW DoD Manual DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma
  • Read, write, and speak both English and Spanish at proficiency Level 4 and C
  • Valid driver's license is required.
