No Offer Description The CAT-REN group at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ITQ CSIC-UPV) is seeking a candidate to apply for an FPU pre-doctoral contract (FPU Call 2026 published by the AEI) to undertake a doctoral thesis focused on the design of advanced catalysts for the sustainable valorisation of biomass and derived biomolecules into renewable products of industrial interest. The research will address the synthesis and characterisation of multifunctional catalysts for their application in the catalytic transformation of biomass derivatives (biorefinery waste fractions) into renewable liquid fuels and high value-added chemicals, in line with the objectives of the BioSMART (Horizon EU) and BIOREFINT (MICIU) projects, which are currently being carried out by the CAT-REN group. The ITQ (CSIC-UPV) offers a multidisciplinary research environment of excellence, specialising in catalysis, materials and technologies for the energy transition. The doctoral thesis will be carried out within the framework of the Sustainable Chemistry Doctoral Programme at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) Duration: 4 years FPU 2026

conditions:
Full-time pre-doctoral contract (€32,500 per year) + doctoral tuition fees + research stays. It also provides for a possible post-doctoral mentoring period within the total duration of the grant should the thesis be defended ahead of schedule. Activities to be carried out: Synthesis and characterisation of new nanostructured and multifunctional catalytic materials. Evaluation of catalysts in processes for the conversion of biomass derivatives to produce advanced liquid fuels and renewable chemicals. Application of advanced techniques for the analysis of reaction mixtures and the identification of products. Use of advanced analytical techniques to establish structure-reactivity relationships for catalysts.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related disciplines + Master’s degree completed or nearing completion Excellent academic record, particularly important for a competitive application to the FPU call for applications (preferably >8.3/10). Interest in or experience of heterogeneous catalysis, and the synthesis and characterisation of solid materials. Motivation to conduct research in an international and multidisciplinary environment Deadline for applications: 31 October 2026 #J-18808-Ljbffr
