Position Summary
The BMS Security Engineer, is responsible for defining, coordinating, and validating the technical scope, design requirements, procurement strategy, cost inputs, risks, and delivery approach for building management systems, security control systems, networking infrastructure, and related MEP interfaces during the preconstruction phase of IREN’s next-generation, renewable-powered Spain data center projects. The role ensures that these systems are planned with the reliability, scalability, cybersecurity, energy efficiency, safety, and operational resilience required for high-performance compute environments.
This role contributes to the successful development of IREN’s Spains data center pipeline by translating project objectives into clear technical specifications, coordinating design consultants and vendors, reviewing constructability and system integration requirements, supporting tendering and procurement processes, and ensuring that BMS, physical security, access control, CCTV, network connectivity, structured cabling, controls, monitoring, and related digital infrastructure are fully aligned before construction starts.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the DC Engineering Lead, the BMS Security Engineer is responsible for:
• Define and coordinate the preconstruction scope for BMS, security control, networking, structured cabling, monitoring, controls, and related MEP systems by translating IREN’s data center requirements into clear technical specifications, design criteria, and employer’s requirements.
• Lead the technical review of design documentation by assessing drawings, schematics, narratives, specifications, equipment schedules, control philosophies, network architectures, and system integration strategies to ensure completeness, constructability, maintainability, and operational readiness before construction starts.
• Coordinate interfaces between BMS, electrical systems, mechanical systems, cooling infrastructure, fire systems, security systems, ICT/networking, operations, commissioning, consultants, contractors, vendors, and utility stakeholders to ensure integrated, reliable, and scalable data center solutions.
• Support tendering, procurement, and vendor selection for specialist packages by preparing scopes of work, technical bid requirements, evaluation criteria, clarifications, risk registers, value engineering options, and technical recommendations for award.
• Identify and manage preconstruction risks, gaps, dependencies, and technical constraints by assessing impacts on cost, schedule, commissioning, cybersecurity, resilience, safety, compliance, and future operations, and by proposing mitigation measures early in the project lifecycle.
• Contribute to cost planning, scheduling, and project controls by providing technical inputs for budgets, procurement lead times, construction sequencing, design deliverables, long-lead equipment, commissioning milestones, and handover requirements.
• Ensure alignment with applicable codes, standards, cybersecurity principles, data center design practices, physical security requirements, networking resilience, energy efficiency objectives, and IREN’s sustainability and high-performance infrastructure standards.
• Promote continuous improvement during preconstruction by capturing lessons learned, standardizing technical requirements, improving design review processes, supporting reporting routines, and sharing specialist knowledge across IREN’s project development and delivery teams. Requirements
• At least 8–10 years of experience in MEP design coordination, preconstruction, technical project management, or specialist systems delivery, preferably within data centers, mission-critical facilities, industrial infrastructure, telecommunications, security systems, or large-scale commercial construction.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Automation/Controls Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; relevant certifications in BMS, networking, cybersecurity, security systems, commissioning, or project management are well regarded.
• Strong technical knowledge of BMS, EPMS/DCIM interfaces, controls, automation, physical security systems, access control, CCTV, intrusion detection, structured cabling, LAN/WAN connectivity, network resilience, monitoring platforms, and integration with mechanical and electrical systems in data center environments.
• Solid understanding of preconstruction processes, including design development, design reviews, constructability analysis, scope definition, technical specifications, tender documentation, procurement strategy, cost planning, scheduling, risk management, and value engineering.
• Ability to review and challenge technical drawings, control narratives, network diagrams, system architecture documents, equipment submittals, specifications, commissioning strategies, and contractor/vendor proposals with strong attention to integration, reliability, cybersecurity, and maintainability.
• Familiarity with relevant building codes, electrical and low-voltage standards, data center design practices, physical security standards, cybersecurity principles, energy efficiency requirements, and commissioning guidance applicable to mission-critical infrastructure.
• Structured, analytical, collaborative, and proactive profile, with strong communication, stakeholder management, planning, negotiation, technical problem-solving, documentation, and decision-making skills, and the ability to influence multidisciplinary teams during early project stages. Compensation
• Compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and market data for the region.
• Total Compensation package may be inclusive of annual incentive bonus, and equity (long-term incentive) Health & Wellness
