A Snapshot of Your Day The Lead OT Architect shapes the Industrial Digital Foundation and Software-Defined Automation architecture across Digital Products and Solutions (DPS). The role defines how industrial assets, control systems, edge platforms, operational data and knowledge, enterprise services, and AI capabilities work together in a secure, governed, and reusable architecture. Combining deep OT expertise with cross-portfolio architecture leadership, the role guides technology convergence and turns strategic direction into practical standards, roadmaps, and scalable solutions. Create and scale an Industrial Digital Foundation that reduces product-specific engineering, enables reusable software-defined automation and edge capabilities, and provides trusted operational context for digital services and AI-enabled energy systems across components, assets, plants, fleets, and enterprise platforms. How You’ll Make An Impact
• Architecture leadership: Define, maintain, and govern target and reference architectures, principles, reusable patterns, technical standards, and guardrails for OT, edge, industrial data, and automation across DPS.
• Industrial Digital Foundation: Establish shared asset, system, equipment, semantic, and state models that can be governed once and reused across engineering, operations, digital services, analytics, and AI.
• Software-defined automation: Decouple control applications and engineering artifacts from specific hardware while preserving deterministic behavior, functional safety, cybersecurity, reliability, availability, and lifecycle support.
• Edge and distributed runtime: Define resilient architectures connecting industrial assets, control workloads, edge services, enterprise platforms, cloud services, and AI. Address local processing, offline operation, store-and-forward, remote lifecycle management, observability, and graceful degradation.
• OT/IT integration and interoperability: Drive secure, open, multi-vendor integration across plant networks, industrial DMZs, edge, cloud, and enterprise environments using appropriate protocols, APIs, brokers, gateways, and information models.
• Trusted industrial data: Define consistent approaches for acquiring, timestamping, validating, buffering, normalizing, contextualizing, and securely transporting industrial data, including metadata, lineage, data quality, and time synchronization.
• Cybersecurity and compliance: Embed defense in depth, segmentation, secure remote access, identity, certificate and secrets management, hardening, vulnerability management, auditability, and applicable industrial cybersecurity requirements into architecture decisions.
• Architecture governance: Lead architecture reviews, document significant decisions and trade-offs, resolve cross-domain conflicts, and ensure agreed guardrails are reflected in product and platform roadmaps. Technology & Business Leadership
• Translate the Industrial Digital Foundation into prioritized technology roadmaps and cross-product adoption plans.
• Identify high-value opportunities, validate them through prototypes, site evidence, and customer feedback, and move successful concepts into scalable portfolio and platform initiatives.
• Guide technology selection and integration based on interoperability, security, scalability, operational resilience, lifecycle sustainability, cost, and business value.
• Build strategic partnerships and ecosystems that close capability gaps, accelerate adoption, and create reusable technology and business opportunities.
• Increase engineering productivity through reusable components, shared patterns, reference implementations, and systematic reduction of product-specific solutions.
• Mentor engineers and architects, build critical competencies, and align product, platform, controls, cybersecurity, data, and AI teams.
• Communicate complex architecture choices clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders and represent DPS Technology & Innovation with customers, suppliers, partners, standards bodies, and industry communities.
• Define governance and assurance principles for AI agents and agent-based architectures, including safe tool access, human oversight, operational boundaries, and integration with trusted industrial context. What You Bring
• Education and

experience:
Master’s degree in automation, electrical or control engineering, computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience. Extensive experience in industrial automation, industrial software, digital platforms, or critical infrastructure is expected.
• OT and control systems: Deep knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, historian, protection, and condition-monitoring environments, including plant operations, high-availability and safety constraints, long asset lifecycles, brownfield integration, and controlled change.
• Industrial connectivity: Practical experience with relevant protocols, standards, and integration patterns such as OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus TCP, PROFINET, IEC 61850, Asset Administration Shell, ISA-95, and comparable vendor interfaces.
• Edge and platform engineering: Strong working knowledge of Linux, containers, Kubernetes, edge gateways, distributed runtimes, fleet anagement, remote updates, observability, resilient systems, and hybrid on-premises/edge/cloud architectures.
• Industrial data, semantics, and digital twins: Experience with time-series data, asset hierarchies, metadata, semantic models, contextualization, data lineage, digital twins, and the creation of governed, discoverable, reusable data products.
• Cybersecurity, safety, and reliability: Strong working knowledge of industrial network architecture, defense in depth, functional safety and reliability, secure communications, and relevant requirements such as IEC 62443, NERC CIP, NIS2, and the Cyber Resilience Act where applicable.
• Software and delivery: Experience with modern software engineering, APIs, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, versioning, and secure software lifecycle practices. Ability to move solutions from discovery and proof of concept through validation, rollout, and lifecycle support.
• Architecture methods and leadership: Demonstrated success defining reference architectures, documenting decisions, resolving cross-domain trade-offs, and driving adoption across products and teams without direct authority.
• Industry and communication: Ability to express technical choices in business and engineering terms and align global multidisciplinary teams. Fluency in English is required; experience in power generation, grids, energy management, or adjacent critical infrastructure is strongly preferred.
