With a strong track record of backing transformative companies and translating cutting-edge science into real-world impact, we are now launching a new fund dedicated to company creation originating from Spanish academia, and selectively, to seed investments in emerging biotech and medtech ventures.We are expanding our leadership team and seeking a new Partner to help shape the strategy, build the next generation of disruptive companies, and drive the fund's scientific and investment vision.Role OverviewThe Partner will play a central role in the fund's sourcing, creation, and development of new biotech/medtech companies in partnership with top academic institutions and scientific founders. This is a senior, high-impact position for someone who combines deep scientific expertise with an entrepreneurial mindset, strong leadership skills, and a strong network in the biotech or medtech innovation ecosystem. The candidate will work alongside the two existing partners of the Fund and will be part of a larger, dedicated team, supported by the overall Asabys structure.The Partner will be responsible for identifying breakthrough science, designing and evaluating company-creation theses, building founding teams, driving investment decisions, and supporting portfolio companies from incubation through early clinical development.Key ResponsibilitiesCompany Creation & SourcingIdentify high-potential scientific opportunities emerging from Spanish universities, research centres, and technology transfer offices.Lead scientific and strategic evaluation of new company-creation projects.Work closely with academic founders to define value proposition, development roadmap, IP strategy, and company structure.Investment Strategy & ExecutionDrive deal flow, conduct due diligence, and present investment opportunities to the Investment Committee.Lead negotiation of term sheets and investment agreements.Contribute to fund strategy, portfolio construction, and long-term value creation.Portfolio LeadershipServe on Boards or act as Board Observer for selected portfolio companies.Advise management teams on scientific, development, regulatory, and fundraising topics.Support companies through key early milestones (PoC, preclinical development, IND-enabling studies, Series A fundraising).Ecosystem & Network BuildingCultivate a strong presence within the Spanish and European biotech research and innovation community.Build long-term partnerships with academia, TTOs, CROs, KOLs, and industry stakeholders.Represent Asabys at conferences, scientific meetings, and investor events.Support fundraising activities, representing the fund's scientific and investment vision.Professional ProfileWe are seeking a candidate with a strong combination of scientific excellence, entrepreneurial instinct, strategic thinking, and leadership capacity.Required QualificationsPhD in Life Sciences, MD, PharmD, or equivalent advanced scientific/medical degree.10+ years of experience in biotech/medtech R&D, venture capital, tech transfer, entrepreneurship, or company creation.Demonstrated ability to evaluate scientific innovation and translate discovery into investable company theses.A strong professional network within academia, the biotech/medtech innovation ecosystem, and corporate pharma/medtech players.Prior experience in early-stage company building, venture creation, or serving on Boards is a strong advantage.Fluent in English; proficiency in Spanish recommended.Based in Spain, preferably Barcelona or Madrid.Personal TraitsEntrepreneurial mindset and passion for building companies from scratch.Ability to influence, inspire, and collaborate with scientific founders and management teams.Strong people leadership mindset, with the ability to mentor and develop a high-performing team, while actively contributing to a collaborative, respectful and excellence-driven culture at Asabys.Strategic, analytical, and comfortable making decisions with incomplete information.Strong communication and storytelling skills.Appetite to operate in a dynamic, cutting-edge, high-ambition VC environment.What We OfferA senior leadership role within one of Spain's top healthcare venture capital funds.The opportunity to lead the creation of next-generation biotech/medtech companies with high scientific and societal impact.Direct involvement in investment decision-making and portfolio strategy.A collaborative, mission-driven team and a long-term partnership track.Remuneration package according to the prior experience of the candidate, within the benchmark of European VCs.
