The Department of Humanities, Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, invites applications for a 5-year tenure track position in the field of  Thought, Aesthetics and Art Theory (Cultural Philosophy)

Area of Specialization:   Thought, Aesthetics and Art Theory (Cultural Philosophy)

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• They must show demonstrable experience in the acquisition of fellowships and/or research projects.
• They must prove ability in establishing national and international collaborative research networks.
• They must have a strong record of publications and teaching experience in the field of Thought, Aesthetics and Art Theory (Cultural Philosophy)
  

The selected researcher will be expected to:

• Join the faculty team.
• Teach in UPF's Global Studies and Humanities undergraduate programmes (BA) and, also, in the Department's MA & Doctoral programmes.
• Participate in the Department's research activities.
• Hold management positions.

A command of English is essential. Good command of the other two UPF official languages (Catalan and Spanish) will be an asset.

This position is ruled by the Agreement of the Board of Governors of the 6th of July 2016 on the system for attracting and retaining talent. Short-listed applicants will be invited to deliver a  public seminar and interviewed by the selection commitee and faculty members.

Specific requirements

• The applicant must hold a PhD.

• If the Phd was issued by UPF, the applicant will need to have been contractually separated from the institution for at least two years since earning the PhD.

• Languages: A very good command of English is essential. Good command of the three UPF official languages (Catalan, Spanish, English) will be an asset. 

• Special consideration will be given to those candidates who, in addition to showing a high qualification in the field of Thought, Aesthetics and Art Theory (Cultural Philosophy) will make a rigorous proposal for dialogue with other humanities disciplines (e.g. art, literature, music...) 

BENEFITS
Gross Salary (per year): 45.640,76 €
The position involves a five-year fixed-term contract. One year before the contract expires, the Tenure-Track researcher will be assessed by a Department's Committee. The outcome will determine whether the Tenure Track researcher is recommended to stay in the position as a permanent researcher or whether the contract will be terminated at the end of the fifth year.

• His/her PhD qualification.
• His/her Research CV.
• His/her Teaching and Management CV.
• A PDF-copy of a research piece (a journal article or a book chapter) the applicant has published on the field of Thought, Aesthetics and Art Theory (Cultural Philosophy)
• A PDF-copy of a course syllabus the applicant has taught on the field of Anthropological archaeology in Latin America (Modern Age)
• A brief description of the Research Project the applicant will carry out during the five years of the Tenure-Track contract (5 to 10 pages).

Schedule
Submission of applications: the application must be submitted no later than March 29, PM CET).
Incorporation of successful candidate: June 2025.

Additional comments 

One year before the contract expires, the candidate will be assessed by the Department's Teaching Staff Committee. The outcome will determine whether the candidate is recommended to stay in the position as a permanent researcher or whether the contract will be terminated at the end of the year. In the event of a negative assessment, the candidate will have a further year on the contract prior to its expiry.

Candidates receiving a positive assessment will have one year in order to secure accreditation from the Agència per a la Qualitat del Sistema Universitari de Catalunya (AQU Catalunya or the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency) in order to be eligible to fill a permanent post.
