The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) leads multiple large-scale, high-impact strategic initiatives that require strong institutional coordination, strategic alignment, and the ability to operate across organizational boundaries. Among them, the BSC AI Factory represents a flagship project with significant strategic relevance for the Center, demanding close interaction with leadership, scientific departments, and transversal units.
Within this context, the role provides strategic and transversal support to BSC leadership, contributing to the successful implementation of priority institutional initiatives, with a particular focus on the AI Factory. The position operates at the intersection of strategy and execution, supporting coordination efforts, reinforcing internal alignment across departments and units, and helping ensure that institutional priorities are translated into coherent and actionable activities.
The mission of the role is to support BSC leadership in safeguarding the success of strategic initiatives by identifying risks, addressing coordination and alignment challenges, and proposing practical and innovative solutions. Through close collaboration with directors, project leaders, and operational teams, the role contributes to strengthening institutional coherence, improving execution capacity, and enhancing BSC's ability to deliver complex, cross-cutting initiatives effectively.
Key Duties
- Strategic Project Leadership
- Coordinate the conception, planning, and execution of institutional strategic projects in alignment with BSC's overarching goals.
- Collaborate closely with scientific departments and key stakeholders to define project scope, goals, and success metrics.
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight throughout the project lifecycle to ensure timely delivery and achievement of desired outcomes.
- Stakeholder Management
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including the Scientific Advisory Board, industry partners, funding agencies, and government entities.
- Solicit feedback and input from stakeholders to inform project strategy and decision-making processes.
- Anticipate and address stakeholder concerns to maintain project momentum and support.
- Strategic Planning and Alignment
- Contribute to the development and refinement of BSC's strategic roadmap, incorporating insights from ongoing projects, stakeholder feedback, and industry trends.
- Ensure that institutional strategic projects are aligned with BSC's mission, vision, and core values, driving positive impact and value creation.
- Monitor external factors and market dynamics to identify opportunities and risks that may impact project success or strategic direction.
- Problem Identification, Resolution, and Continuous Improvement
- Proactively identify structural, operational, or coordination issues that may impact the implementation or performance of BSC.
- Design and propose pragmatic and innovative solutions, applying out-of-the-box thinking to overcome institutional, procedural, or operational bottlenecks.
- Support the resolution of issues across different functional areas (governance, operations, services, partnerships), facilitating consensus and implementation of corrective actions
- Conduct post-project reviews and lessons learned sessions to capture insights and inform continuous improvement initiatives.
- AI Factory Project Coordination and Internal Alignment
- Support the successful implementation of the BSC AI Factory by contributing to the coordination and execution of project activities, in close collaboration with the designated project leadership and responsible units.
- Act as a facilitator of internal alignment, working with relevant BSC departments and units to ensure coherence, consistency, and timely coordination across AI Factory-related activities.
- Assist in translating strategic and operational requirements into coordinated actions, helping identify interdependencies, gaps, or misalignments that could affect project delivery.
- Provide transversal support to project coordination by anticipating issues, clarifying roles and interfaces, and reinforcing effective collaboration between involved stakeholders.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor degree in engineering, computer science, business administration, or a related field.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in project management, strategic planning, or related roles, preferably within research institutions, technology organizations, or academia.
- Proven track record of involvement in complex, cross-functional projects from initiation to completion, delivering measurable results within established timelines and budgets.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic initiatives or institutional projects, with a demonstrated ability to align activities with organizational goals and priorities.
- Understanding of research methodologies, technology trends, and scientific developments, particularly in the fields of high-performance computing, computational sciences, or related domains.
- Good stakeholder management skills, including the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences, build consensus, and navigate complex organizational dynamics.
- Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Familiarity with European funding programs, research grants, and project financing mechanisms.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams or international environments, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cultural and organizational boundaries.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance requirements related to research, technology transfer, and intellectual property management.
Related courses in innovation, project management, and research project proposal preparation.

Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the [department] Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 22 days of holidays + 6 personal days + 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement

Development of the recruitment process
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
- Curriculum Analysis: Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position. - 40 points
- Interview phase: The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated. - 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.
In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.
The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
