DIRECTOR DRUG DISCOVERY – CHEMISTRY

Our client is a solid technology company, now managing an emerging biotech platform dedicated to discovering and developing breakthrough antimicrobial agents to combat the growing threat of drug-resistant infections. Leveraging cutting-edge biology, advanced screening platforms, and a multidisciplinary team, they aim to deliver novel anti-infective therapies with transformative potential for global health.

Driven by a strong scientific and entrepreneurial spirit, the company is entering an exciting research & growth phase. We are now seeking a Director, Drug Discovery Chemistry, to lead and expand their Discovery Chemistry function, driving innovation, collaboration, and scientific excellence across their pipeline.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise and manage the day-to-day activities of the Research Chemistry group, providing vision, inspiration, and both short-term and long-term goals. Communicate priorities, policies, and goals of Senior Leaders to the group.
  • Perform medicinal chemistry SAR-driven optimization of novel small molecule and other drug modalities to provide overall optimal in vitro and in vivo properties of new anti-infective therapeutics
  • Champion and lead the Research chemistry efforts on multiple internal/external project teams, and demonstrate the ability to multi-task and parallel process to add to our continuous pipeline of development candidates
  • Identify new strategies and technologies and improve on existing platforms for pursuing novel synthesis of small molecule and other drug modalities
  • Set priorities, accelerate, and ensure successful progression of the group's technology and pipeline projects.
  • Actively participate in departmental, cross-functional, senior leadership, and external meetings to contribute expertise and to represent the goals and vision of the Discovery Chemistry group.
  • Interact broadly and collaboratively with other groups, forging relationships and active collaborations.
  • Challenge and mentor the Drug Discovery Chemistry group to provide opportunities, visibility, and development for all group members.
  • Directly report to the General Manager.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Have a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry or in medicinal chemistry (Ph.D. in Chemistry or Pharmacy).
  • Extensive drug discovery experience with small molecule and other drug modalities including their synthesis and manufacturing, and expertise in modern methods in medicinal chemistry structure-activity relationships.
  • A minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
  • Additional relevant experience should include an understanding of biological MOAs, extracellular/intracellular target evaluation, ADME/PK, PD/efficacy, tox evaluation,
  • A track record of success in the field of novel therapeutic molecules, (i.e., advancement of molecules into the clinic)
  • Experience building leading teams is required.
  • Working collaboratively with both internal and external organizations (e.g., CROs) is mandatory.
