Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.

IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).

IRB Barcelona is seeking a **Laboratory technician **to work on the project:

- “Reticulate evolution: patterns and impacts of non-vertical inheritance in eukaryotic genomes” del European Research Council (ERC). Acrónimo; RETVOLUTION. Gran Agreement: 724173.The Comparative Genomics group, led by ICREA professor Toni Gabaldón, is looking for a Laboratory Technician to work in the context of microbial genomics projects, including the study of fungal pathogens and the relationship between the human microbiota and health and disease.**DUTIES**:

- Extracting nucleic acids from different type of samples (yeast, microbiome) and preparing libraries to support next generation sequencing experiments.
- Basic microbiology experiments: culturing microorganisms, performing phenotyping experiments, and maintaining the laboratory strain collection.
- Supporting molecular biology experiments, preparing media and reagents.
- Ordering and keeping laboratory material and reagents, helping in general lab maintenance and organization.

**EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS**:
Must Have - Required
- Experience:

- Knowledge:

- Basic molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR, qPCR), and microbiology (culturing, isolation) techniques.
- Skills:

- Good organisational skills; ability to work in teams and independently; reliability and rigor in the execution of the assigned work; proactive, flexible and problem-solving attitude; and good command of English.

Desirable
- Experience:

- Previous experience in next generation sequencing, yeasts, or microbiome-related projects will be valued.
