The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).
**IRB Barcelona is seeking a research assistant, to assist in our work of **understanding the effects of disease-causing mutations on human cells by performing large-scale genetic experiments in the Genome Data Science laboratory, led by ICREA professor Fran Supek.**
This contract will be financed by the Research Project EC ERC StG ‘Hypermutated tumors: insight into genome maintenance and cancer vulnerabilities provided by an extreme burden of somatic mutations. GrantAgreement (GA) No: 757700; Acronym: HYPER-INSIGHT’
**DUTIES**:
- perform excellent research according to the high standards of the Supek and the Bolognesi labs
- publish results in high impact journals. Draft manuscript texts and figures.
- present at weekly lab meetings and journal clubs, at department seminars, and at conferences
- engage in teamwork with other members of the host labs to facilitate progress on the project
**EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS**:
**Must Have - Required**
- **Experience and skills**:A MSc or PhD in the life sciences. Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture, and with genetic engineering/cloning. Good level of spoken english.
**Desirable**
- **Experience and skills**:Optionally, some experience with Flow cytometry, with CRISPR editing or with oligonucleotide libraries is a plus. Experience with transcriptomics experimental methods is valued. Further, some experience with statistical analysis of large scale data (e.g. either transcriptomic or genomic) will be helpful, although is not necessary.
**WORKING CONDITIONS & ENTITLEMENTS**:
