**Executive Director, Language Center**

**IE Arts and Humanities Division**

**Institutional Context**:
IE University (IEU) is a private university with campuses located in Segovia and Madrid (Spain). IEU programs are run in English and Spanish and are compliant with the terms of the European Higher Education Area (Bologna Accords). The University is comprised by five schools and a transversal unit, the Arts and Humanities Division. The Language Center depends on the latter.

**Center Context**:
Complementing IE University´s (IEU) core value of Diversity, the Language Center (LC) provides our student body with the opportunity to discover the world through a variety of languages: English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Portuguese, German and Arabic.

**General Function**:
The Executive Director is responsible for the design and management of the academic programs of the Center, monitoring program excellence, the professional development of the teaching staff, and the use and innovation of technology in support of teaching and learning. They will interact with faculty, students, different departments of IE and

external agencies as decision-maker on operational matters.

They will report to the Executive Director of the Arts & Humanities Division and will manage the Center’s Team and Faculty.

They will work with faculty, students and staff of different departments of IE to ensure an optimal development and innovation of the language program

**Responsibilities**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
Academic duties:

- Research and identify key trends and emerging innovations and tools in language hybrid and online education and support the process of dissemination within the relevant stakeholders.
- Analyze, design, and coordinate strategic projects to innovate in learning methodologies, program formats, content, and edtech tools and technologies.

Internal, External and Operational Coordination:

- Ensure the appropriate implementation of academic guidelines and policies.
- Plan and manage the budget of the Center together with the Executive Director of the Arts and Humanities Division. Responsibly comply with the budget and support in its appropriate implementation.
- Lead and coordinate the activities and projects that are key to the Center’s Success.
- Plan long-term training goals and objectives.
- Plan and develop operating procedures and policies which support the goals and objectives.
- Work closely with the Executive Director to promote curriculum innovation, mainly as to the viability of these ideas, possible reactions from the students and teachers to them, etc.
- Collaborate with the Academic Teams of the Different Schools by participating in information sessions, level tests, etc.
- Collaborate with other content areas and programs to maximize effectiveness.
- Perform other related work as required.
- Coordinate Faculty and Staff development activities, workshops, and community programs to enhance educational services.

Team Management:

- Support in the selection and recruitment of the Language Center team as well as evaluate the performance of each team member under the overall supervision of the Executive Director of the Arts and Humanities Division.
- Ensure the proper running of programs operations by supervising the work of the programs management team.
- Related to the previous point, interact with all School Departments that directly or indirectly participate in the development of the program and student services.

Student Management:

- Take ultimate responsibility for the overall academic program delivery.
- Ensure timely and smooth communication and relationships with students and administration regarding academic programs.
- Evaluate and improve overall student experience.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of the Arts and Humanities Division when deciding on whether to raise a case to the Ethics Committee informing the Committee members of the case details for later deliberation.

Faculty Management:

- Ensure communication with the faculty to ensure that they know the contents of their courses (teaching methodology, profile of the students, request class marks) in a timely manner; discuss possible contingencies that may arise to solve any problems in the best way possible.
- Lead faculty meetings.
- Lead faculty in implementing best practices for other language learners.

Qualifications:
**Requirements**:

- Minimum 8+ years professional experience.
- Academic background in the Humanities.
- Master’s degree from a top-ranked university.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and oral), with substantial professional experience in both languages.
- Training and/or experience in education, learning innovation, instructional design, edtech and technology.
- Experience in teaching languages.
- Robust strategic knowledge and managerial experience in the global languages education sector.
- Robust experience in supervisory and management roles.
