Position Summary
Following the acquisition of the Vasyma Cooperage business and as we continue with further investment in sherry cask supply, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cask Strategy & Partner Brands team as a Senior Oak Supply Manager. The Senior Oak Supply Manager is responsible for the supply of oak for Edrington whisky casks and will take the lead with our oak sourcing and stave production, whilst also leading on sustainability initiatives. The Senior Oak Supply Manager is a key part of the management team within Cask Operations and is integral to team shaping, contributing to, and executing the overall Cask Supply strategy. The role will be based in Jerez, and work closely with internal, strategic partner, and third-party teams in both Spain & Scotland.
Job Description
- Take the lead on collaborating with existing oak procurement management teams to understand and document the oak procurement process from log to stave.
- Collaborate with log buyers to build relationships with log suppliers, clearly understanding the dynamics of different oak acquisition routes.
- Lead the development of oak traceability from the point of origin through to sawmill processing, working with and coordinating suppliers to introduce necessary control checks.
- Create an oak specification for American and European Oak types. Understanding the conversion rate from log to staves.
- Overall governance of our log procurement strategy, keeping up to date with and communicating technical requirements and applicable legislation.
- Recommend and secure volumes with selected suppliers. Take accountability for their delivery via robust, compliant, and legally sound relationships.
- Work with the wider team to create the annual cask plan, ensuring that appropriate oak volumes are identified and secured for production.
- Oversee the operation of and investment in owned sawmill assets, identify efficiencies in the sawmill operational process.
- Develop and implement inventory management processes, specific to logs and stave oak
- Development of the sustainability strategy for oak procurement within the cask supply chain. Lead the understanding and reporting of general oak trends, oak availability, and forest health in the areas which we source.Lead reporting on oak pricing and market activity, generally and in key souring geographies
- Work with the wider Edrington sustainability team to create a sustainability roadmap, identifying key miles stones, and target metrics.
- Keep up to date with current sustainability legislation relating specifically to oak and stave production
Skills and Experience

To take on the challenge of this role, you will be degree qualified in a relevant discipline with senior level experience in an operational business management environment, and extensive expertise in building and optimising organisational processes and infrastructure to advance productivity, compliance, quality and cost. You will have the gravitas and confidence to communicate effectively at all levels with the ability to influence and manage upwards. A proven track record in creating, developing and executing long term strategy are a prerequisite. To succeed you will be highly organised with prior experience of leading organisational change and delivering business critical assignments. Previous experience of supply chain process control systems are desirable and a high level of proficiency in MS Office is required. The role requires fluent written and oral communication skills in both Spanish and English
