What are you going to do:
- As a Researcher Phytopathology you develop sustainable methods to identify new resistance mechanisms that have the potential to be implemented in breeding programs. You will work in the department that is specialized in research on plant resistance to pests and pathogens in vegetable crops.
- Your power
- You are passionate about plants. You have a life or food sciences background, are knowledgeable in microbiology and chemistry and in the engineering part of the job. Your natural curiosity drives you to investigate tasks at hand. Based on your diagnosis you come up with creative solutions fitting situational needs. For you, a research project does not end with presenting results: you make sure your findings and solutions are embedded in clear protocols and implemented at the work floor. One of your key assets is your ability to interact at different organizational levels and share your knowledge with people at the work floor in an understandable matter.
Moreover, identifying new resistance mechanisms requires adopting creative new ways of phenotyping plant resistance, an understanding of pest and pathogen biology and their required bioassays and data analysis and presentation. You will develop your own niche expertise in phytopathology based on breeding needs and personal interest and expertise, and you will be responsible for keeping up to date with scientific frontiers in that field.
In this process you seek constant alignment with colleagues at the work floor, thus making sure your solutions will be easily implemented. There will be ample of opportunity for professional self-development in this position. You will report to the Senior Researcher.
**Requirements**:
- have a Master in Life
- or Food Sciences;
- have 3-5 years of relevant experience as a researcher Phytopathology;
- have strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
- understand the dynamics of an industrial setting;
- stay on top of the latest (scientific) developments and are able to share your expertise in multidisciplinary teams and on different levels;
- proficient in English and Spanish;
