We’re always pushing each other to go further because we believe that when we realize our potential, we can help others reach theirs.**The opportunity:** We have an exciting opportunity for a **Underwriter Liability** to generate and underwrite new business for the Markel team, based in our Barcelona office. You will engage with brokers and clients in the Catalonia, Aragón, Valencia & Balearics regions.**What you’ll be doing:*** Underwriting and growing the Liability book of business profitably, within the dedicated region* Establishing, developing, and expanding broker and customer relationships* Extending and consolidating our footprint as a recognized insurance partner by assessing, proposing, and negotiating insurance conditions for large and midsize projects, with a primary focus on Liability* Working closely with our Madrid team regarding clients and brokers* Assessing risks, coverage, terms, and conditions, driving related underwriting processes* Working closely with the General Manager of the Barcelona office and the Liability department, to ensure development and profitability of the portfolio* Developing the Underwriting strategy, guidelines, standards, processes and tools* Managing the referral business* Interacting with the other functions (Business Development, Technical Underwriting, Claims) across the business* Championing continuous improvements and continually working with the team to improve end to end process and data accuracy* Attending regular broker and client meetings and travel to represent Markel as required**Our must-haves:*** Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity and profitability.* Validated experience in an Underwriting function and an understanding of the regional insurance market* Effective interpersonal skills as you collaborate with local and partners.
