About the Role

Fundació i2cat is seeking a highly skilled Junior Systems Engineer to join our Research Infrastructures team. As a key member of our Operations & Digital Transformation area, you will work closely with our research areas, including Mobile Wireless Internet, Internet of Things, and Distributed Artificial Intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the 6GCAMLab facilities, a critical experimental infrastructure for research and development in enabling technologies for future Connected and Automated Mobility.
  • Deploy, commission, and test sensors and network infrastructure elements for V2X communications.
  • Implement and test connected autonomous vehicles prototypes based on ROS and open-source frameworks for autonomous driving.
  • Deploy, demonstrate, and evaluate advanced CAM use cases on real mobility scenarios.
  • Participate in dissemination activities, contributing to the elaboration of technical papers for conferences and journals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, computer science, or electrical engineering with at least 1 year of experience.
  • Hands-on experience in hardware/software development of embedded systems.
  • Proven expertise in programming with C, C++, and Python languages.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux and networking troubleshooting.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge and understanding of networking technologies, Cloud Computing, and edge computing.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in Robotics Operating System (ROS).
  • Knowledge of research trends in vehicular communications.
  • Knowledge in protocol stacks for V2X communications: ETSI G5 stacks, IEEE 802.11p, C-V2X, and 5G.
  • Knowledge in simulation tools for vehicular communications, e.g., Omnet++, SUMO, ns-3, and CARLA.
