Research Specialist

As a mixed methods user researcher in our DIY Division, you'll report into a Principal UX Researcher embedded within the same area. Your responsibilities will include leading your own research, working closely with product teams, and supporting a human-centered design process to create high-quality user experiences. This includes defining clear problem statements, framing project goals and research questions, scoping and selecting the appropriate methods and tools, supporting in recruitment, running research activities, analyzing data, and sharing findings.

Coach / Trainer

You'll also be supporting product teams and team members (primarily in Product Management and Design) who are conducting their own research. This includes 1 to 1 supports, where you'll assist partners evaluating usability risks by conducting research at the micro level, and 1 to many supports, where you'll be developing and delivering trainings, building and improving templates for the research process, enabling continuous discovery.

Advisor

Finally, you'll be leveraging multidisciplinary insights about users to inform prioritization and planning with your product teams. This includes leveraging insights and a growing knowledge base to advise decision-making, and synthesizing patterns across primary research and other data sources.

What You Bring

As a Research Specialist, you'll need a keen understanding of when to leverage generative vs. evaluative research, and the capability to apply mixed methods (qual and quant) to develop a better understanding of customers and identify potential risks. You'll also need strong skills in data analysis and quantitative research methods, and expertise in communicating compelling research findings with an emphasis on storytelling through data.

As a Coach / Trainer, you'll need a strong willingness to mentor and guide Designers, Product Managers, and Engineers, and strong collaboration and communication skills. You'll also need the ability to bring structure and shared understanding to discovery efforts, and a passion for research democratization and enablement.

As an Advisor, you'll need an eagerness to accumulate deep product knowledge while considering the customer's experience, and the ability to synthesize patterns across primary research and other data sources.

Your Qualifications

You'll need 2+ years experience in applied product research, and a Bachelor's or advanced degree in human behavior-related fields.
