The Spanish Language Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting, implementing, and promoting this commitment along with all NYU initiatives, such as Affordability, Sustainability, and Student Success, within the daily operations of NYU Madrid. This full-time, year-round position holds primary responsibility for the Spanish Language program at the site. The individual in this role will manage the academic offerings of the Spanish language courses and will also instruct within the NYU Madrid study away program. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Academics and the Resident Director, this position is crucial for the effective delivery of the Spanish language curriculum.
The responsibilities of this role encompass both administrative duties and teaching obligations, including:
- Coordinating approximately 20 Spanish language courses each semester (Fall and Spring) and 6-8 during the Summer.
- Collaborating with the Academic team to develop and oversee co-curricular activities linked to the Spanish language courses and immersive language experiences.
- Mentoring and developing faculty members.
- Teaching up to 3 courses per academic year, which includes office hours and course preparation.
A key focus of this position is to ensure the delivery of excellence in the Spanish language program, aligning with NYU's leadership in international higher education. The student demographic includes first-year students, advanced standing students, and visiting students from various institutions.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is between $48,000 and $57,000.
Required Qualifications
Education:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Second Language Acquisition or a related field is required. A postgraduate degree or coursework in a relevant area is preferred.
Experience:
Candidates should possess over 5 years of experience teaching at the university level, particularly with students from the United States. Experience in coordinating or managing a language program or multi-section courses is highly advantageous.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both written and verbal. Cultural sensitivity and the ability to engage effectively with a diverse audience of academics and administrators are essential. Proficiency in standard office software, including the Microsoft Office suite and online tools (e.g., Google Docs), is required.
Fluency in Spanish (both written and oral) at a near-native level is mandatory, along with fluency in English.
Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Spain.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with NYU's values and vision is desirable, along with experience in an academic setting that includes mentoring faculty. Previous experience in U.S. and/or Spanish higher education is also preferred.
