About the Role

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is seeking a highly skilled GPU Porting Expert to join our team in the Earth Sciences Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for coordinating the activities related to porting the modules of the Earth Science models to GPUs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the department's research line on porting the modules of the Earth Science models to accelerators.
  • Develop and lead the department's activity on development of kernels suitable to be executed on accelerators efficiently.
  • Contribute to research in the porting of Earth Science Models for novel architectures.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related discipline. A Master's degree or PhD will be valued.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Excellent computer skills in high-level computer languages (particularly FORTRAN and C/C++) and experience in UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash, Python, etc).
    • Previous experience in a scientific field related to the role, particularly climate or atmospherical modelling.
    • Proven experience in accelerator porting, such as GPU porting, for numerical applications.
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.
    • Proven ability to manage large-scale, collaborative projects.
    • Demonstrated skills in the use and support of Unix or Linux-based HPC systems.
  • Competences:
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven leadership and management abilities.
    • Writing skills for scientific journal papers.
    What We Offer

The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, and flexible working hours. Duration: 4 years. Salary: 50.00,00€. Starting date: asap - the incorporation for this vacancy must be before the 16th of December 2024.
