MongoDB's Technical Services team combines exceptional problem-solving and communication skills with deep technical expertise to advise customers and solve complex MongoDB problems. Our team members are experts in components of the MongoDB ecosystem, including the database server, drivers, management suite, and services such as Cloud Manager and MongoDB Atlas.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Services Engineer to join our team. As a Technical Services Engineer, you will work alongside our largest customers, solving their complex challenges and resolving questions on architecture, performance, recovery, security, and more. You will be an expert resource on best practices in running MongoDB at scale and an advocate for customers' needs, interfacing with our product management and development teams on their behalf.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert-level technical support to customers, resolving complex issues and answering questions on MongoDB architecture, performance, recovery, security, and more.
  • Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of MongoDB and its ecosystem, including the database server, drivers, management suite, and services such as Cloud Manager and MongoDB Atlas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management and development, to ensure customer needs are met and product requirements are aligned.
  • Contribute to internal projects, including software development of support tools for performance, benchmarking, and diagnostics.
  • Focus on the performance of our Cloud platform Atlas and its supported services, helping both frontend and backend developers build next-generation applications on the MongoDB platform.
  • Share technical knowledge with the team, either via informal one-to-one conversations or training and workshop sessions, and document solutions in our knowledge base system to increase efficiency for customers, team members, and departments throughout MongoDB.

Requirements

  • Distributed systems experience, including database architecture and administration.
  • Experience supporting complex mission-critical product applications and database systems (RDMBS or NoSQL or both).
  • Strong diagnostics and troubleshooting experience, with the ability to analyze issues holistically, from the application tier to database to storage.
  • Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability.
  • Systems administration experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.).
  • Storage engineering experience, including NAS, RAID, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching.
  • Working with real-time stream processing using Kafka and serverless computing services such as AWS Lambda, Azure functions.

  • Desire and ability to rapidly learn a wide variety of new technical skills.
  • Uncontrollable urge to investigate and solve problems, with advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to think on your feet, remain calm under pressure, and solve problems in real-time.
  • Strong teamwork: willingness and ability to get help from team members when required, and the good judgment to know when to seek help.
