We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Developer specializing in Ruby to enhance our Engine team. This team is responsible for the development and maintenance of critical components related to the execution of Workato Recipes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing, extending, and troubleshooting complex Ruby applications, including Rails and microservices.
  • Enhancing the execution engine for custom third-party code, focusing on performance and new feature integration.
  • Writing clean, efficient, and testable code primarily in Ruby, with some involvement in GOlang.
  • Integrating various data storage solutions such as Postgres, Redis, S3, DynamoDB, Kafka, and ClickHouse.
  • Participating in all stages of the software development lifecycle.
  • Conducting code reviews to ensure high-quality standards.
  • Assessing and recommending improvements to existing systems.
  • Identifying performance bottlenecks and bugs, proposing effective solutions.
  • Maintaining code quality, organization, and automation practices.

Requirements

Qualifications / Experience / Technical Skills

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in developing, deploying, and maintaining Ruby and Rails applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of Ruby, with experience in high-performance backend applications beyond MVC frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of fundamental data structures and algorithms.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the components of large web applications, including databases, load balancers, application servers, message brokers, and caching systems.
  • Familiarity with network protocols and architectures.
  • Proficient in both traditional and modern database technologies.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Soft Skills / Personal Characteristics

  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with globally distributed teams.
  • Proficient spoken English for technical discussions and collaboration.

Optional Requirements

  • Experience in developing Domain Specific Languages (DSLs) in Ruby.
  • Background in C/C++/Linux or system programming.
  • Familiarity with GOlang.
  • In-depth knowledge of physical database design.
  • Experience with Docker and other containerization technologies.
  • Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience in related fields such as DevOps, Machine Learning, Database Administration, or Enterprise applications.
  • Experience in building and deploying data processing pipelines is advantageous.
  • Experience with third-party REST APIs at scale, including request throttling and batch processing.
