About the Position

The Association of Academic Museums and Galleries is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Director of the Seymour Marine Discovery Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the center, fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our marine education and research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to advance the center's mission and goals, aligning with the Association's overall objectives.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including UCSC administration, faculty, and students, as well as external partners and community groups.
  • Program Development and Management: Oversee the development and implementation of engaging and educational programs, exhibitions, and events that promote marine research and conservation.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage the center's annual operating budget, ensuring financial sustainability and growth.
  • Marketing and Outreach: Develop and implement effective marketing and outreach strategies to promote the center's programs and initiatives, both on- and off-campus.
  • Staff Management: Provide leadership and guidance to the center's staff, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
Requirements
  • Leadership Experience: A minimum of four to six years of leadership experience in a nonprofit or museum setting, with a proven track record of success in strategic planning, program development, and financial management.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; a Master's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Skills and Qualities: Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders. A passion for marine education and research, with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
