About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Customs Operations Specialist to join our team at Sin nombre. As a key member of our global trade team, you will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all import/export operations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Import/Export Reporting: Prepare and submit accurate and timely import/export reports to comply with Mexico and US regulations and internal needs.
  2. Documentation Coordination: Coordinate the general documentation for import/export to comply with legal requirements for Mexico and US Customs.
  3. Customs Representation: Represent the company in all Customs matters related to Mexico Customs and other government agencies in Mexico.
  4. Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure and anticipate compliance with Mexico government requirements, review changes, and analyze impact related to Customs laws and regulations, ensuring correct implementation.
  5. Financial Analysis: Ensure compliance with internal Customs yearly forecast as well as financial analysis and reports related to budget.
  6. Import/Export Balances: Analyze, review, and control import/export balances and reconciliation of customs documents versus perpetual records.
  7. Permits and Licenses: Ensure that all applicable permits and licenses are transacted in a timely and accurate manner.
  8. Certificates of Origin: Ensure that all Certificates of Origin are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  9. Product Origin Analysis: Analyze all BOMs to determine the origin of products and update the Customs System database.
  10. FDA Compliance: Ensure FDA codes are in place, when required for articles to be imported to the US.
  11. Chain of Custody: Request and control the Chain of Custody letters for the FDA.
  12. Tariff Classification: Determine recommended tariff classification for all merchandise for US and Mexico Customs.
  13. US Broker Resolution: Coordinate with US Broker resolution for any situation that may affect the operation of the company.
  14. Customs System Updates: Update data in Customs System.
  15. Audits and Reviews: Conduct periodic audits/reviews of information loaded or updated into Customs System.
  16. System Implementation: Ensure implementation of changes related to SAAI and SQL at Customs System.
  17. Procurement and Supplies: Ensure procurement of department supplies and resources.
  18. Training and Development: Provide training as needed to customers and associates.
  19. Record Keeping: Ensure proper record keeping and archiving of customs documents according to regulations and company policies and procedures.
  20. Product Transfers: Perform the necessary actions and coordinate timely and secure flow of new product lines and transfers.
  21. External Audits: Coordinate external audits of Customs department activities.
  22. Internal Controls: Continuous review and update of internal controls and requirements related to international business operations of the company.
  23. Safety and Environmental Compliance: Follow all company safety policies and other safety precautions within the work area, and ensure compliance with Environmental Management System (EMS) responsibilities.
  24. Company Policies and Procedures: Is his/her responsibility to comply with company policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations of the countries related to customs activity.
  25. Records Management: Follow J&J and EES Records Management Policies for Convenience Information, Records Retention Schedules, Training and Education, Document Hold Notices, Records Cleanout, Inactive Records and Information Management, Vital Records and third-party vendor if applicable.
  26. Communication: Responsible for communicating business-related issues or opportunities to next management level.
  27. Leadership and Supervision: For those who supervise or manage a staff, responsible for ensuring that subordinates follow all company guidelines related to Health, Safety and Environmental practices and that all resources needed to do so are available and in good condition, if applicable.
  28. Compliance and Ethics: Responsible for ensuring personal and company compliance with all Federal, State, local and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
  29. Additional Responsibilities: Performs other duties assigned as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (International Trade, Customs Administration, Law, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting or Commercial Relations) required.
  • 6 – 8 years of experience in Customs Analyst/Supervisor/Specialist role or equivalent position.
  • Bilingual. English/Spanish. GMP/ISO knowledge. Knowledge of U.S./Mexico Customs Laws and Regulations and Foreign Trade Practices.
  • Green Belt Certification preferred.
  • Leadership, Verbal and written communication proficiency, Proactive, Judgment and decision-making skills, Sense of urgency, Teamwork and collaboration, Accuracy and thoroughness, Ethics and Integrity, Working knowledge of multiple Customs Control software.
  • Fully proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Acrobat, Visio, etc.).
