As a Technical Author at Canonical, you will play a crucial role in shaping the company's documentation strategy and practices. You will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and improving software documentation, working closely with engineering team members to ensure effective documentation contributions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain high-quality software documentation
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop documentation that meets user needs
  • Influence product development as an expert user with valuable insights
  • Engage with user communities to ensure documentation meets their needs
  • Standardize documentation structure, presentation, style, and language across products
  • Collaborate with documentation peers to advance documentation practices and theory
Requirements
  • Strong written communication skills and a passion for functional writing
  • Technical writing experience with a programmer's mindset or programming experience with excellent documentation skills
  • Community engagement experience in open-source software, documentation, research, or other disciplines
  • Technical curiosity and fascination with software technology and its challenges
  • Experience with software development contexts, including Linux, command-line interfaces, application deployment, system operations, and infrastructure management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
