Job Title: Marine Cargo Underwriter Position

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Marine Cargo Underwriter to join our team at AXA XL. As a Marine Cargo Underwriter, you will play a critical role in assessing, quoting, and underwriting potential risks, processing deal documentation, managing workflow, establishing strong relationships internally and externally, and acting as the critical interface between the broker/clients and AXA XL.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite, manage, and service a renewal book and produce new business.
  • Analysis and evaluation of risks.
  • Negotiate with producers to achieve profit objectives.
  • Maintain expertise with the products, services, priorities, and targeted markets.
  • Support the business planning and forecasting process; monitor financial exposure and premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
  • Identify and drive new product development opportunities.
  • Ensure all underwriting activities are documented on the underwriting systems to the required data quality standards and ensure metrics meet the standards of the company.

Requirements:

  • Desired University Degree and knowledge in the maritime industry.
  • Understanding of Insurance industry fundamentals and proven experience in marine/cargo Underwriting activities.
  • Aviation Underwriting experience will be highly evaluated.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish is required; other languages are a plus.
  • Robust communication and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical skills and mathematical abilities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and data-driven decision-making skills combined with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, producers, and brokers as well as across AXA XL and AXA Group entities.
