Sincrotrón Alba is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a leading research infrastructure with ten beamlines, facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center in partnership with other institutions. We are currently constructing new beamlines and expanding our Electron Microscopy Center, integrating advanced data analytics to tackle societal challenges.

Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès, near Barcelona, we are funded by the Spanish Government and the Catalan Government. Our 3 GeV electrons produce synchrotron light used by thousands of researchers to analyze and understand matter in various fields like catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage.

About the Role

We seek a skilled Technician In The Beamline Support Group to contribute to the maintenance, operation, and development of ALBA beamline scientific instrumentation. Your responsibilities include:

  • Installation, design, and integration of scientific instrumentation, including CAD models, mechanical components, and assembly.
  • Preparation of experimental setups under diverse conditions, such as ultra-high vacuum, high pressure, and cryogenic environments.
  • Evaluation and optimization of beamline mechanical systems for reliability and performance.

To succeed in this role, you should possess at least 3 years of hands-on experience as a technician in maintenance, operation, or development of scientific instrumentation involving high vacuum and ultra-high vacuum technologies. Fluency in English is essential for international collaboration.

Key skills and qualifications include:

  • Hands-on experience with scientific instrumentation in high vacuum and ultra-high vacuum environments.
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings and precision mechanics.
  • Practical machining skills, including operating lathes and milling machines.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software packages and designing instruments.
  • Knowledge of cryogenics and cryo-systems.
