Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, secure, and reliable operation of our databases. This includes tasks such as performance review, configuration, installation, upgrades, backups, restorations, and monitoring of the databases.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Database Management: You will be responsible for the management and maintenance of our databases, including tasks such as performance review, configuration, installation, upgrades, backups, restorations, and monitoring.
  2. Database Design: You will be responsible for designing and planning the database structures in collaboration with our web backend tech leads, to ensure information is stored efficiently and securely.
  3. Data Security: You must ensure that databases are protected against unauthorized access, data loss, and corruption, and ensure compliance with data privacy requirements.
  4. Database Performance: You will be responsible for ensuring databases operate efficiently and quickly, including optimizing queries, indexing data, and configuring database parameters.
  5. Troubleshooting: You will be responsible for identifying and resolving issues, including resolving data conflicts and recovering databases in the event of system failures.
Requirements
  1. Database Management Systems (DBMS): Proficiency in major DBMS such as PostgreSQL and (Google BigQuery or Azure Data Explorer). Experience with distributed/multi-node databases will be highly valued.
  2. Database Design: Strong understanding of database design principles, including normalization, indexing, and data modelling.
  3. SQL: Advanced knowledge of SQL and experience with complex queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
  4. Performance Tuning: Experience in performance tuning, statistics, and query optimization.
  5. Backup and Recovery: In-depth knowledge of database backup and recovery procedures.
  6. Security: Familiarity with database security practices and tools.
  7. Tools: Experience with database management tools (e.g. pgAdmin).
Soft Skills
  1. Problem-Solving: Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically.
  2. Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  3. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  4. Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and coordinate with developers, system administrators, and other IT professionals.
  5. Time Management: Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Work Experience
  1. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a related role.
  2. Project Management: Experience in managing database projects, from planning to implementation and maintenance.
