Position Overview:

Westinghouse Electric Company LLC is in search of a committed AP1000 Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) Training Specialist. This role is pivotal in crafting and sustaining top-notch educational resources for AP1000 nuclear facility operations. Responsibilities include delivering classroom instruction, facilitating simulator training, and developing instructional content in line with industry standards and best practices. Core Responsibilities:

  • Qualification and Maintenance: Achieve and uphold AP1000 SRO Instructor qualifications, which encompass roles as a Classroom Instructor, Simulator Instructor, and Instructional Material Developer. Regular participation in training sessions and successful completion of examinations are required to maintain these qualifications.
  • Lesson Plan Development: Create, revise, and assess lesson plans to ensure they are accurate and relevant. Employ adult learning principles and innovative techniques, such as role-playing and instructional games, to boost trainee engagement.
  • Instructional Duties: Lead classroom, simulator, and laboratory training sessions. Prepare and administer assessments, ensuring trainees attain a high level of proficiency and comprehension.
  • Continuous Improvement: Integrate operational experiences and industry best practices into training materials. Maintain comprehensive training records and resources within the VISION database/Learning Management System (LMS).

Essential Functions:

- Qualification Maintenance (20%):

  • Participate in AP1000/PWR training courses and complete self-study modules.
  • Successfully pass AP1000/PWR systems, procedures, and simulator examinations.
  • Maintain qualifications through ongoing training and requalification assessments.

- Development of Training Materials (45%):

  • Collect information to create or update training resources for Operations and Instrumentation & Control (I&C).
  • Ensure that materials comply with industry standards and effectively assess trainee performance.
  • Utilize engaging learning techniques to foster active participation.

- Instructional Duties (30%):

  • Prepare and deliver training sessions in classrooms, simulators, and laboratories.
  • Administer and evaluate examinations, ensuring secure handling of assessment materials.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of training resources.

- Additional Responsibilities (5%):

  • Attend meetings and provide operational expertise to support other departments.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Science/Engineering or Nuclear Engineering preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in Navy Nuclear Operations, Commercial Reactor Operations, or as a Nuclear Power Plant Engineer/I&C Technician with relevant nuclear experience.
  • Instructional Experience: At least 2 years of instructional experience with certifications such as SRO Instructor, Navy Nuclear Instructor, or Commercial Reactor Operator License.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database applications.
  • Soft Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and presentation abilities.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel internationally up to 25% and work occasional long hours, rotating shifts, and weekends.
