About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Manager to join our Operations Department at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in supporting scientists with Big Data applications and tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and manage Hadoop and OpenStack platforms on our premises.
  • Deploy and manage Big Data solutions for researchers on our premises.
  • Deploy software solutions to manage scientific data according to requirements specified in research data management plans.
  • Contribute to the implementation of data services connected to the distributed computing systems of the Center.
  • Work with BSC researchers to ensure the appropriate implementation of standards and methodologies for data management.
  • Monitor applications of data protection and security rules.
Requirements
  • Education: Degree in Computer Science, Physics, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or related scientific disciplines.
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
    • Proven experience in a similar position.
    • Proven experience in distributed computing environments (HPC / HTC / Cloud).
    • Excellent understanding of system administration of computing platforms like Hadoop and OpenStack.
    • Excellent knowledge of Big Data management functions and solutions for data transfer, storage, analysis, distribution, exploration, etc.
    • Proven experience in working with large datasets and distributed file systems, SQL, databases, data lakes, metadata management.
    • Proven experience in UNIX / LINUX environments and scripting languages.
    • Experience designing and/or implementing GUIs and web interfaces.
    • Excellent computing skills in languages like C / C++, Java, Python, Spark.
  • Competences:
    • Fluent written and spoken English.
    • Ability to work under set deadlines.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team to complete tasks on schedule.
    • Enthusiasm for working in a scientific research environment.
