Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to provide critical support to our dynamic PerkinElmer lab service team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operations within the customer lab space, allowing scientists to focus on their work.

This is a fixed-term contract to cover a maternity leave through to March 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage chemicals and reagents used by customers, including delivery, collection, inventory management, and safety data sheet maintenance.
  • Coordinate purchases using customer-provided software, track deliveries, and liaise with customers.
  • Prepare chemical and biological shipments (national and international).
  • Perform specific tasks tailored to customer requirements.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and guidelines for required tasks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to solve technical problems.
  • Maintain training and compliance in health and safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects of daily activities.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance ways of working.

Essential Skills:

  • Attention to detail and understanding of laboratory environments.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent customer service and relations skills.
  • Ability to critically review and improve ways of working.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, or a relevant discipline OR
  • High School Qualifications with proven experience in a laboratory or customer service environment.

Working Environment:

  • Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment.
  • Job pace may be fast, and job completion demands may be high.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for more than 25% of the time.
  • The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite.
  • Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools, or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close-range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery.
  • Employee may be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Potential risk to lab-based hazards, including extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.
  • May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator.
