Job Title: Breeder Melon

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Breeder Melon to join our team at KWS Vegetables. As part of our growth strategy, we are looking for a talented individual to develop and manage our new breeding programme for melons.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and manage the breeding programme for melons, utilizing state-of-the-art breeding technologies to create high-quality commercial varieties.
  • Collaborate with internal groups, including breeding, research, product development, and production, to ensure the success of the breeding programme.
  • Conduct scientific research projects and bring innovative ideas to the table to drive the development of new melon varieties.
  • Manage and direct a team of competent employees, ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the breeding team.
  • Oversee the increase and maintenance of basic stock seed and/or production departments to ensure the availability of high-quality seeds.
Your Profile:
  • Hold a PhD or master's degree in plant breeding with a focus on vegetable breeding.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a vegetable breeding programme, with a strong understanding of quantitative genetics, plant pathology, breeding methodology, and the vegetable market.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required, and proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to work under field conditions, assess, and select melon varieties.
  • Willingness to travel for business purposes and flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with excellent organizational and analytical abilities.
