We are seeking a skilled Breeder - Melon to join our team at KWS Vegetables.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and managing our new breeding program for melons. This will involve using cutting-edge breeding technologies to create high-quality, commercially successful varieties.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in plant breeding, with a PhD or master's degree in a relevant field. They will also have at least 5 years of experience in a vegetable breeding program, with a good understanding of quantitative genetics, plant pathology, and breeding methodology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the breeding program for melons
- Use state-of-the-art breeding technologies to develop and select high-quality varieties
- Collaborate with internal teams to bring new ideas and support scientific research projects
- Manage and direct a team of employees to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the breeding team
- Ensure the availability of high-quality basic stock seeds
Requirements:
- PhD or master's degree in plant breeding or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in a vegetable breeding program
- Good knowledge of quantitative genetics, plant pathology, and breeding methodology
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) and good working knowledge of Spanish
- Ability to work under field conditions and travel for business
- Strong communication and team player skills
