Director of Renewable Energy Development

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Director of Onshore Wind, Solar, and Battery to lead our European operations. As a key member of the SSE Enterprise Executive Committee, you will be responsible for developing and delivering technology strategies to expand our European footprint.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement technology strategies to accelerate growth, optimize value, and achieve a just transition to net zero.
- Oversee integrated technology harnessing performance, strategy, and culture for our European assets, including Spain, Italy, France, Greece, and Poland.
- Originate, develop, construct, deliver, and operate assets, including providing sign-off on multi-million-pound devex and capex projects.
- Manage P&L and drive operational performance to optimize commercial contribution.
- Establish an asset management business responsible for operational assets, including safe and commercial operations.
- Make recommendations on greenfield and brownfield opportunities to the Executive Committee.
- Shaping and aligning teams of circa 100 staff, contractors, and specialist consultants working within the technologies.
- Develop and lead a performance culture ensuring goals are met and teams are motivated to improve processes, innovate, and develop their capability.
- Drive operational safety, health, and wellbeing performance and embed a safety-first culture.
Requirements:
- Deep understanding of the renewables industry within European markets, including wind, solar, and battery technologies.
- Experience of working in or supporting high-value, complex capital projects, including commercial value drivers of operational services.
- Experience of early-stage project development and navigating land, consents, and routes to market.
- Strong people leadership skills and significant experience in leading teams, projects, and programs.
- Experience in negotiations and excellent stakeholder management skills to drive delivery and ensure investments are fully optimized.
- A growth mindset, with experience of change programs and empowering the generation of innovative ideas and opportunities.
Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish and/or Italian, and the ability to do business in English.
