About the Opportunity

N26 is seeking a seasoned executive to lead our Spanish and Portuguese operations as a Senior Country Manager. This is a unique opportunity to join a pioneering fintech company and drive growth in one of Europe's most dynamic markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent N26 legally and serve as the primary spokesperson for the company in Spain and Portugal, promoting its mission, values, and goals to external audiences.
  • Develop and implement a cross-functional country strategy in alignment with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
  • Act as the Leader for the Spanish Bank branch, ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements, including legal liability and Managing Director (MD) decision rights.
  • Advise the ELT and global functional leaders on strategies to increase total net contribution per market.
  • Lead the Local Market team in collaboration with global divisions.
  • Champion the local customer, ensuring all decisions are properly localized, and well-coordinated across local and central functions.
  • Contribute to, review, and agree on country P&L forecasts, ensuring the achievement of local P&L targets through cross-functional efforts.
  • Define the target organization for the Spanish Bank branch, promoting compliance excellence by sponsoring local compliance projects.
  • Generate proactive market insights (e.g., on competitors) and serve as the point of contact for all local market topics.
  • Identify and lead major local business development and collaboration opportunities.
  • Motivate and lead cross-functional country teams, providing input on the recruitment and performance of country employees.
  • Serve as the site lead and legal representative for all local N26 entities, ensuring an excellent employee experience for local staff.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in a similar role covering strategic planning, business development, and market expansion for or in an international company, preferably in a bank or other financial institution, with 5+ years in a leadership capacity.
  • Deep understanding of the Spanish consumer tech and/or retail banking market.
  • Demonstrated experience in FinTech, consumer platforms, digital environments, or financial services - even better, all of the above.
  • Excellent commercial and analytical skills, with the ability to easily evaluate data and use it as a powerful force in decision making.
  • Outstanding analytical skills: data-driven decision making, with excellent Excel and communication skills to effectively communicate complex information.
  • Proven track record of effectively engaging and collaborating with key stakeholders, including C-level, and the ability to effectively influence cross-functional leaders and teams.
  • Track record of building and growing a business as well as delivering high-impact projects successfully.
  • You are a dynamic senior spokesperson with experience in public speaking and public relations (100% fluency of the Spanish language required).
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with strong customer, product, and business-oriented thinking.
  • A solid understanding of the business case behind retail banking as well as the competitive landscape in Spain and Portugal - you know why N26 is better than its competitors and can position us against them.
  • A hands-on mentality, with a natural aptitude to manage competing priorities.
  • A strong local network, easily opening doors for N26.
  • You have completed a Master's degree in either Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
