Job Title: Archive Scientist

Join the European Space Agency (ESA) as an Archive Scientist and contribute to the success of our Science Programme. As a key member of the Department of Science Operations, you will play a crucial role in the definition and implementation of the scientific archive for ESA heliophysics missions.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for the specification of the scientific archive, its implementation, and operation. You will work closely with the heliophysics mission project scientists, other mission archives scientists, and the ESDC Software and Data Systems Architect to ensure the scientific return of the missions is maximized.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and specify the scientific archive for supported ESA heliophysics missions
  • Monitor the implementation, testing, and expected performance of the archive
  • Provide scientific support and steer the development and operations of the archives
  • Liaise with internal and external providers to ensure the completeness of all levels of data products
  • Encourage and contribute to the science exploitation of the missions' data products through archive usage
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A PhD in heliophysics
  • Experience in science operations, preferably in the context of ESA missions
  • Experience in science data management and archiving systems
  • Broad knowledge of scientific disciplines, including strategic vision in the area of heliophysics
  • Experience in coordinating the scientific community and managing multiple interfaces at international level
