About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer II to join our Maps & Geospatial Team at Microsoft. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing scalable MapsPlatform and geospatial solutions for internet Maps and Location searches.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Develop Geospatial Solutions: Apply advanced engineering techniques and machine learning solutions to address complex location inference, geospatial, and mapping challenges in production environments.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with stakeholders and partner teams to gather requirements, ensuring the delivery of high-quality location services that meet user needs.
  • Drive Innovation: Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products.
  • Lead Technical Projects: Drive identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Code Optimization: Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Technical Expertise: Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers) to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • System Monitoring: Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and guide other engineers by developing and following the playbook, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions, alerting stakeholders about status and initiates actions to restore system/product/service for simple and complex problems when appropriate.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • Experience: 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
