As a Senior Applied Scientist/Research SDE, you'll be part of our Gray Systems Lab (GSL), an applied research group that tackles interesting challenges in analytics, cloud, AI, and storage systems. We build reliable, highly scalable, and highly performing distributed systems for data analytics on Azure, publish in top-conferences, and are actively involved in open-source projects.

In this role, you'll establish collaborative relationships with product and business groups, provide expertise or technology to create business impact, and drive activities like technology transfers, standards organizations, patent filings, and tool development. You'll also bring new technology and approaches into production by applying long-term research efforts to solve immediate product needs.

Responsibilities:

* Independently work to create product impact by identifying approaches and applying research-backed solutions to positively impact Microsoft products or services.
* Serve as an expert within the product domain, gaining deep knowledge in a complex or highly ambiguous service, platform, or domain.
* Review business and product requirements and incorporate state-of-the-art research or previously tested solutions to formulate plans that meet business goals.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
* Extensive experience with one or more of the following languages: C#, Java, Python, C++, Rust.
* Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.
