Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Software Engineer to join our team at Pearson. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-complexity digital solutions that align with our strategic product vision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Lead the design and architecture of digital solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, and stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Delivery: Lead and participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including planning, designing, developing, testing, and deploying backend solutions.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Foster a collaborative team environment, promote open communication and knowledge sharing, and effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Proficiency with back-end programming languages and related frameworks, with a focus on PHP and JVM stacks.
  • Considerable experience in building and maintaining digital products, including websites, mobile apps, and AR/VR solutions.
  • Strong understanding of the development lifecycle, including code reviews, pipelines, and software delivery.
  • Master security principles and software quality assurance principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for education and learning, with a strong understanding of customer needs and preferences.
  • Experience working with distributed teams and proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
