Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Tax to join our team at Dentons. As a key member of our tax practice, you will be responsible for overseeing various tax operations and providing high-caliber tax solutions to our Partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner Income Tax and Income Sourcing:
    • Develop and implement income sourcing policies to ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
    • Collaborate with external advisors to stay up-to-date on local developments and provide support during tax audits.
    • Manage tax compliance for partners in various countries, including monitoring tax payments and ensuring timely filing of tax returns.
    • Work closely with local teams to ensure seamless tax operations.
    • Manage the preparation of K-1 equivalents for US nationals.
  • Coordination of Europe-Wide Tax Projects:
    • Implement and oversee post-implementation of transfer pricing policies and documentation, including recharges of fees and costs across offices.
    • Provide withholding tax support to ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
    • Offer VAT support to local offices and assist with EDGE implementation.
    • Ensure compliance with Mandatory Disclosure Rules.
    • Address mobility issues and provide tax advice to employees on international assignments.
  • Tax Structuring:
    • Handle tax structuring for growth and restructuring initiatives to minimize tax liabilities and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
    • Support local and European finance teams, including providing training on tax structuring and compliance.
  • Tax Compliance and Planning:
    • Oversee tax compliance for group entities to ensure timely filing of tax returns and compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
    • Engage in tax planning and tax risk mitigation to minimize tax liabilities and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Partner Accounting:
    • Maintain partner capital and current accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
    • Implement partner distribution policies to ensure fair and timely distribution of profits.
    • Monitor partner payments and collaborate with the Treasury team on cash flow planning.
    • Provide support to Management, the Europe Board, and the Europe Compensation Committee.
    • Coordinate with the group consolidation team and external auditors to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Requirements:

  • Adequate professional qualifications, such as a degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Approximately 10 years of professional experience, preferably within the professional services or legal industry.
  • Expert-level understanding of relevant tax laws and regulations, with strong knowledge of accounting standards.
  • Proven track record of handling tax issues in a European environment.

  • Excellent communication skills, strong business relationship-building capabilities, and the ability to handle change with ease.
  • Analytical thinking and the ability to navigate within a complex business environment.
