About the Role

We are in search of a Technical Team Leader who possesses a proactive mindset and is dedicated to cultivating a high-performing team and product. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Technical Team Leader will oversee the engineering team, ensuring accountability and quality in their deliverables. This role involves assisting in project planning and execution, communicating updates, milestones, and challenges to stakeholders, and empowering team members to achieve significant contributions towards organizational objectives while also supporting their professional growth. To excel in this position, candidates should have a robust understanding of relevant tools, a keen interest in industry trends, experience in team or project management, and exceptional communication skills. Comfort in a fast-paced environment and strong emotional intelligence are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Engineering Management, Operations, and Product Teams to define and implement team objectives and strategies.
  • Organize and lead technical planning for team projects.
  • Maintain team productivity, foster accountability, and ensure consistent quality in outputs.
  • Work with project managers to establish and uphold regular meeting schedules, including planning sessions, one-on-ones, and stand-ups.
  • Report on progress, obstacles, concerns, and achievements to engineering management.
  • Facilitate meetings with external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Advocate for team requirements, including addressing technical debt and enhancing infrastructure.
  • Provide technical direction and lead code reviews for the team.
  • Offer constructive feedback to team members and contribute to formal performance evaluations.
  • Assist team members in troubleshooting issues and resolving complex challenges.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Support the hiring and onboarding processes for the team.
  • Aid team members in developing and pursuing their personal growth objectives.
  • Lead effort estimation activities with the team.
  • Oversee the deployment processes for the team.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in delivering projects/products to a large audience.
  • A bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or a minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience in a managerial role.
  • Proficiency in application languages and technologies such as NodeJS, React, RabbitMQ, SOAP and REST APIs, JVM-based languages, Kafka, and the ELK Stack.
  • Familiarity with data storage technologies including PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch, and Druid/Superset.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure technologies such as Docker, Mesos, AWS/Azure, and related tools.
  • Experience in the travel industry is advantageous.
  • Ability to evaluate and select technologies based on their merits to address challenges.
