POSITION SUMMARY:
The role of the Scientific IT Systems Administrator is crucial for overseeing the effective operation of the computational resources at CRAG. This position involves managing the CRAG computer cluster, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee and manage the CRAG computing cluster, ensuring seamless functionality and peak performance of all computational resources.
- Identify and recommend enhancements and optimization techniques for the cluster's architecture and software, aligning with CRAG's requirements and industry advancements.
- Facilitate the installation, configuration, and upkeep of bioinformatics software and tools, offering comprehensive support to users for effective program utilization.
- Assist CRAG personnel in maximizing cluster usage through introductory seminars, user meetings, and personalized consultations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Informatic Engineering, Computational Biology, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, along with commonly utilized bioinformatics languages like Python, R, and Perl.
- Prior experience in managing scientific IT operations within a research or academic environment is highly regarded.
- Strong expertise in pipeline optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with cluster resource management tools, including Slurm, LSF, or SGE.
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases is advantageous.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and proficiency in troubleshooting technical challenges.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of researchers.
- Strong organizational capabilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position is initially offered on a temporary contract basis, transitioning to a permanent role upon successful placement.
- Full-time commitment of 37.5 hours per week.
- Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, adhering to CRAG's salary framework.
- Flexible working arrangements, including telecommuting options and adaptable hours, along with 22 vacation days and 9 personal days.
- Supportive work environment fostering a balance between professional and personal life.
