Job Description

Context and Mission

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is committed to addressing the global challenge of climate change by advancing sustainable energy technologies. As a key player in the European Commission's efforts to achieve a climate-neutral Europe by 2050, BSC is seeking a highly skilled researcher to contribute to a research project focused on high-fidelity multiphysics modeling for battery cells and systems.

Project Overview

The project aims to develop an efficient high-performance computing (HPC)-based computational framework to study the thermo-electro-chemical processes in battery cells and systems. The successful candidate will work with a team of experienced researchers from the Propulsion Technologies Group of the CASE Department at BSC to develop a high-fidelity numerical model of battery cells and systems using the Alya code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a high-fidelity thermo-electro-chemical model of battery cells and systems using HPC-based technologies.
  • Couple the thermo-electro-chemical model with a fluid dynamic solver.
  • Perform high-fidelity simulations to analyze the safety aspects of battery cells and systems.
  • Validate the numerical results with experimental data.
  • Collaborate with other BSC researchers and project partners.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Aerospace, Civil Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong background in fluid mechanics, chemistry, thermodynamics, electrochemistry, and numerical methods.
  • Excellent programming skills in a relevant language.
  • Experience with parallel programming for HPC is an asset.
