BESS Technical Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled BESS Technical Manager to join our team at Ferrovial. As a key member of our Technical Office, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful implementation of utility-scale BESS projects.
Key Responsibilities- Project Development and Engineering: Configure and conceptualize design specifications for Utility Scale BESS systems, and assess technological options for optimization.
- Engineering Oversight: Oversee engineering aspects for Utility Scale BESS projects, including AC/DC circuit design, and support development projects to assess grid connections, suitability, and designs.
- Business Model Development: Support the development of business models, defining the most appropriate revenue stack based on ISO and location.
- Technical Collaboration: Engage with ICP/DNO on strategic network routes and complex connections, and define best practices for project delivery in relation to equipment selection, installation, and commissioning.
- Technical Leadership: Act as technical lead for defining relevant requirements and agreeing scope and specification for EPC/supply and install agreements.
- BESS Technology Appraisal: Own the appraisal of BESS technology, having contact with OEMs and their technology roadmaps.
- O&M Support: Support asset management teams in providing advice and resolutions to electrical safety and asset integrity issues once BESS assets reach operational phase.
- Business Growth: Participate in technical due diligence, identify risk and opportunities related to engineering, asset condition, and operational strategies for potential acquisitions.
- Bidding Process Leadership: Lead bidding processes for strategic projects where technical contribution will become critical.
- Experience: Possess a robust background (+5 years of experience) of hands-on experience in the implementation of utility-scale BESS.
- Education: Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, particularly in electrical engineering or related fields.
- Project Management: Strong project management skills, with PMP certification a plus.
- BESS Technology Expertise: Depth of knowledge of BESS technology and subsystems, including expert knowledge of the factors affecting BESS plant performance.
- Component Suppliers: Detailed knowledge of major component suppliers.
- Agreement Development: Experience in Development, EPC, O&M and equipment supply agreements technical specifications/annexes drafting, proposals evaluation and negotiations.
- Project Management: Ability to work with several projects at the same time.
- Integration: Proficiency in integrating BESS with other technologies is a valuable asset.
- Programming Skills: Familiarity with MATLAB is an advantage.
- Language Skills: Fluency in written, spoken, and comprehended English is mandatory.
The ideal profile of an individual within the Technical Office team is open and outward-looking, self-motivated, with well-rounded interpersonal skills and able to work across different cultures. The candidate will be technically focused with an ability to think independently and demonstrate initiative. While technical experience as described above is required, an ability to understand the commercial drivers of the support to the teams is of much value.
