Database Administrator

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator to join our team at Orion Health in Madrid. As a Database Administrator, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our databases, which support mission-critical solutions for clinicians and citizens.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and optimize Orion Health client databases to ensure high availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Analyze solutions and implement industry best practices for managed customer database instances.
  • Design and implement proactive monitoring and observability of relevant database metrics.
  • Monitor database systems, respond to alerts and incidents, and work with peer SREs to roll out application upgrades and changes.
  • Diagnose, mitigate, and resolve database-related incidents during business and On Call hours.
  • Participate in post-incident analysis, identifying root causes and implementing preventative measures.
  • Design and deliver optimizations, automation, and continuous improvement of database infrastructure.
  • Contribute to capacity planning and scalability initiatives, ensuring database resources can handle growing demands while optimizing for cost.
  • Document changes and learnings, ensuring repeatable proactive actions.
Requirements:
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server skills, including architecture, administration, and performance tuning.
  • Good understanding of data management principles and proven experience with SQL HA and DR technologies.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with competence in writing and refactoring SQL queries.
  • Intermediate or higher level cloud skills, preferably AWS.
  • A proactive, continuous improvement mindset, with a focus on fixing issues and improving processes.
Preferred:
  • Intermediate or higher scripting and automation skills.
  • Knowledge of other RDBMS (Oracle, Postgres, etc.) is desirable.

To be successful in this role, you will have 5+ years of experience in RDBMS database administration or database administration in large mission-critical production environments.
