About the Role:

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Research Analyst to join our team at S&P Global, Inc. as part of our Commodity Insights Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, growing, and enhancing the African upstream content in the Upstream Asset Valuation platform - Vantage.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for upstream asset evaluation across Africa, including research gathering, reserve estimation, production forecasting, field development planning, and cost estimation.
  • Predominantly responsible for the modelling of the production and costs of oil & gas (conventional, unconventional, and "green") projects in the region.
  • Work within a team of geologists, economists, and engineers to capture risk and uncertainty and develop relevant scenarios.
  • Carry out independent research, integrating findings with internal sources and leveraging personal technical knowledge and understanding of regional market dynamics to build consistent and insightful asset analysis.
  • A significant part of the role is client-facing, communicating concepts and workflows in a clear and structured way.

Requirements:

  • University degree in Petroleum Engineering, Engineering, Geology, and/or Economics or related subjects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with fluency in English.
  • Working knowledge of common spreadsheet, word processing, and presentation software.
  • Self-motivated, multi-tasker with the ability to work with minimal supervision and meet strict deadlines.
  • Good understanding of the upstream oil and gas sector, including field development, cost estimation, supply/demand, midstream infrastructure, and regulatory issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in an operating company or as an upstream researcher/analyst for a research or consulting firm.
  • Experience in business planning, development, and investment appraisal of oil & gas projects.
  • Experience in clean energy and decarbonization technologies.
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and experience using Excel and PowerBI would be an advantage.
